2007 TEXAS NON-COMMERCIAL WINE COMPETITION

On Friday, November 9th the Lone Star Non-Commerical Wine Competition was held at Grape Camp in Fredericksburg, TX. Judges for the competition were commercial Texas winemakers, Bob Cottle, Pleasant Hill Winery; Gary Elliott, Driftwood Vineyards; Mac McReynolds, McReynolds Wine all sampled the 28 entries from home winemakers from around the state.

The winners were announced at the annual BBQ dinner at Grape Camp. Congratulations to all the winners!

TEXANS TAKE OVER MANHATTAN!

Award-winning wines represented Texas on June 5th New York City media tour. The wines were showcased to some of the most influential wine and food writers in the United States, including editors from Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Martha Stewart Living and Good Housekeeping.

The Big Apple toasted the tastes of Texas when New York's newly opened Hill Country Barbecue & Market restaurant paired cowgirl cooking with award-winning Lone Star wines.

THE WINE AND GRAPE INDUSTRY ECONOMIC IMPACT REACHES $1 BILLION

The story of the Texas wine industry is growth. From 2000 until 2005, the number of wineries in the state of Texas has grown from 40 to 113, continuing to expand with an aggressive pace with 138 wineries today.

Wine production in Texas has grown 30% to almost 1,500 thousand gallons, ranking Texas as fifth in the nation in wine production. The wine and grape industry in Texas has contributed greatly to the economic strength of the state with an economic impact of $1 Billion!

Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail
 

The wineries on the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail are between IH 45 and US HWY 290, northwest of Houston. Eight Texas wineries to visit are Pleasant Hill Winery, Windy Hill Winery, Purple Possum Winery, Messina Hof Winery and Resort, Bernhardt Winery, Western Winery, Taverna Winery & Restaurant and Vino 100 The Woodlands.

TWGGA PARTICIPATES IN EVENT FOR STATE SENATE STAFFERS FROM AROUND THE NATION

Patsy Spaw, Secretary of the Texas State Senate, hosted senate staffers from across the United States on September 21 at the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch.  The Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association was there to help.  Pleasant Hill Winery, Torre di Pietra, Mesa Vineyards – Peregrine Hill Label and Llano Estacado representatives were on hand to pour wine for the 280 guests.  Also attending were Cord and Sandy Switzer of Fredericksburg Winery.  Click here for pictures.
