Central Texas Vines and Wines Program
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service – McLennan County will host the Central Texas Vines and Wines Program on May 17th at Country Spring Vineyard and Wine Garden located at 1625 Country Spring Road, Lorena, TX. The program will offer two (2) CEU hours in the Integrated Pest Management category that can be put toward recertification of your TDA pesticide applicators license.
Curtis and Mary Timmons, owner and operators of Country Spring Vineyard will be our gracious host. Fran Pontasch, Viticulture Specialist from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension will speak on the Basics of Vineyard Establishment; Jake Mower, AgriLife Extension Soils Specialist will present the Importance of Soil and Tissue Testing; Mike Latimer from local Latimer Vineyards in Riesel will talk about Everyday Vineyard Management; Grape Varieties, Root Stock and Table Grapes will be covered buy Justin Scheiner a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Viticulture Specialist. Michael Cook, another AgriLife Viticulture Specialist will be on hand to educate all on Vineyard Disease and Pest Management; followed by David Appel Texas A&M Professor and Extension Pathology Specialist along with Sheila McBride, Extension Associate Specialist in Plant Pathology who will talk in more detail about trunk virus and research in Grape Virus and Trunk Disease. We will complete the day with a panel discussion from the Central Texas Vines and Wines growers with Lessons they Learned from the Vineyard.
